You’ve Danced to Songs About Femicide (Without Realising It)

Elena Moudiri Chasiotou and Tessie Giannakina speak to Rosa.gr about the educational programme Songs of Shame and the role of music in opening conversations around gender stereotypes and violence.

Body

In an in-depth interview with Rosa.gr, the programme team reflects on how traditional songs that glorify “honour” and normalise violence can become tools for critical thinking, dialogue and social change. Through the voices of young people, Songs of Shame seeks to transform inherited narratives into new perspectives.

The project “Songs of Shame” is implemented within the framework of the programme “POWER – Promoting Organisations' empoWErment to guarantee women’s human Rights and stop gender violence”, coordinated by WeWorld (WW) in partnership with ActionAid Hellas (AAH) and Asociación Bienestar y Desarrollo (ABD). POWER is co-funded by the European Union through the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV–2023–DAPHNE).
